Welcome! My name is Gene Smith and I am a singer/songwriter from San Rafael, CA. You Were Born To Shine is my latest CD. It combines country music with a spiritual/inspirational lyric. I wrote all ten songs, financed the project and recorded it at Omni Sound Studios in Nashville, TN with some of Nashville's finest musicians who have played for Hank Williams Jr., Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss and many more.
This CD is the start of a new direction for me. As I struggled on my path of becoming a mainstream country singer/songwriter, I began to read many inspirational books and listen to many inspirational speakers (see the list below). In 2009, I received an intuitive nudge from Spirit to continue writing the music I love but to start writing lyrics about everything that I had learned from these inspirational books and speakers. In November of 2009, I started with nothing and showed up receptive to Spirit's help. By the end of that November, the title song of this CD, "You Were Born To Shine," was written. From that point, the rest of the songs started to flow. Anytime I would get stuck, I would just ask Spirit for help, believe that it was done and the help would show up. By the end of March 2010, all of the songs were written.
I am in total amazement at how this project unfolded and I know that writing and singing these songs is what I came into this world to do. This project is bigger than me and I am so excited to share it with you.
